How to (re)ignite the spark between you and code

Have you been feeling unmotivated? Uninspired? Unbelievably over coding?

It may be time to take a step back from what you’re doing and reassess why it is you feel the way that you do. Literally ask yourself, “Why am I doing this?”. Do you remember why you started coding in the first place?

Maybe you were looking for something more stimulating & challenging and that led you to learn how to code.

Maybe you took a class in high school and fell in love with the process of creating something with your own vision and abilities.

Maybe you saw the job security and financial stability that it could bring and made it happen.

Whatever your motivation was, tap into that feeling. That excitement, that energy, that desire to do something new and challenging. Even if you don’t feel the same way now, you can still access those feelings and direct it to a new path in your coding journey. It’s not always going to be easy and you won’t always feel confident, but you have control- and there is power in that!

If shifting your perspective doesn’t cut it, I suggest switching gears. Maybe you have been working endlessly on a specific project and have hit a wall- bang out a LeetCode! Or maybe you are putting all of your energy into solving algos- it may be time to build a project! The important thing here is breaking up the monotony. Change. It. Up. Have fun with it again! I find that I feel a burst of energy when I think of building something that I feel passionate about. That should lend some momentum towards the process and in turn to your relationship with coding and everything that comes with it.

I’ve been feeling a little burnt out on LeetCodes lately and thought it would be the perfect time to take a step back and share my personal findings. I hope this has been helpful in some way, and as always, please leave comments, questions, related experiences, etc. below. Follow my journey on LinkedIn:
